Week 5
Assets:

Below you can find a link to an in-testing flash file complete with assets. The item currently being revealed is currently a static graphic which will later be animated with minor shape tweens and coverted to a movie clip.

Week 4
Lessons Learned:

After going through several of my tutorials, I have determined that the best type of mask for the technique I would like to achieve is one that uses a mixture of animation and shape tweening. Unfortunately, I have discovered that the use of too much shape tweening results in a chaotic mess, and so my trials continue.

For the Future:

All of my attempts at masking have been made with the use of a static image being revealed. In my final technique, I would like to reveal a movie clip. I have yet to learn if this is as simple as any other type of mask or requires something different. I also have to learn a way to make my shape tweens cooperate or find an alternate method of revealing using masking that has the same visual effect as the shape tweens.

Week 3
Tutorials on Masking Technique (Take Two):

In addition to the four tutorials found below, two new tutorials have been added. After studying these basic techniques, I believe it will be a process of piecing them together into the whole that I want.

Week 2
Tutorials on Masking Technique:

Searching for tutorials with examples of my specific masking technique turned out to be somewhat difficult. I was able to find a few tutorials on basic masking that I may be able to combine in order to create the effect I actually want.

Week 1
Three Techniques to Explore:

1.) As Senior Project progresses, I'm finding an increasing need for an interesting type of character animation. Here is one example of character animation that I came across several months ago. I find the entire look and feel of the characters and setting extremely appealing. I think the mixture of smooth and jerky actions of the characters could be extremely helpful with the upcoming project.

2.) Other than a few small areas in previous Flash projects, I have very little experience in using masking. Recently, I have come across a large number of flash sites that use masks as part of their preloaders. This website combines the use of an interesting mask effect with minor animations as a large part of the overall design.

3.) As mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have discovered a lot of
animated preloaders
that make use of masking. With little knowlege of masking and preloaders, it is an effect that appeals to me for use on my personal site.
